ManBQue men are a bit like hunters – we feel our successes should never be understated. Whereas a running rabbit becomes a charging moose for a hunter’s tale, Manbque stories recall how a simple recipe became the greatest meal to ever get in the ring with a taste bud. And just like the hunter always valiantly triumphs over the beast it dueled, the ManBQue man’s recipe always raises the championship belt of flavor and sheer deliciousness in the end.

The Gelman brothers, aka Tomax & Xamot, came to ManBQue by way of a TV show pilot that we filmed for the Travel Channel. The producers spoke highly of them, everything on paper stated that these guys knew their shit. They were the brains behindBlack and Blue BBQ, two competition BBQ chefs that supposedly walked the walk. Well, the pilot was filmed and the Gelmans were invited to their first ManBQue, with no producers to hype them up and armed with only their recipe to introduce themselves to the Chicago chapter. Just like a great hunter doesn’t sell you his success, his stuffed bear proves it; the Gelmans didn’t brag about how good their recipe was, they just let it knock everyone out, earning the recipe of the month award in the process.
